We are excited to announce that Homewood Health Inc. has entered into a conditional agreement with the University of Victoria to purchase Dunsmuir Lodge and the surrounding 25 acres situated on the Saanich Peninsula outside of Victoria, BC. The agreement positions Homewood to open a new, private residential facility providing treatment for mental health, addictions and concurrent disorders.

The purchase agreement is subject to a number of conditions. These include municipal approvals for subdivision and zoning, and approval by the Ministry of Advanced Education. The University and Homewood will hold community information sessions this spring about plans for the Dunsmuir property. The University and Homewood will also continue to engage in consultations with First Nations on the Saanich Peninsula.

The facility began its life as a residential addiction treatment centre, and functioned as an educational conference facility after it was donated to the university in 1985. The addition of a western-based residential treatment facility supports Homewood’s strategy of developing a truly national treatment network. It also provides excellent opportunities for research and educational collaboration between Homewood and UVic.

Assuming all conditions are met and approvals are received, we expect to open the facility in 2017. Please see the attached press release from the University of Victoria, and stay tuned for more information.
