Jagoda Pike - Chief Executive Officer of HHC and HHI

Jagoda Pike is an accomplished senior business leader whose career has spanned the private and public sectors as well community and volunteer activities.


Since joining Homewood as President & CEO of Homewood Health Centre in 2012, Jagoda has driven significant transformation and renewal and provided thoughtful leadership on the evolution and growth of the Health Centre. On October 11, 2013, Jagoda was appointed President & CEO, Homewood Health Inc. In that role she is responsible for driving the overall growth and performance of Homewood Health across Canada. Jagoda is also President & CEO of the Homewood Health Centre.


Prior to Homewood, Jagoda spent 22 years working in newspaper and digital media publishing, including serving as Publisher of the Toronto Star. During her 22 year tenure with Torstar Corporation, Jagoda held a broadly diverse portfolio of key leadership positions. Her career at Torstar culminated in the position of Publisher, Toronto Star and President, Star Media Group.


Over her career with Torstar, she held the positions of Executive Director of Labour and Employee Relations and Vice-President, Operations and Human Resources, Executive Vice-President, Torstar Daily Newspaper Group, and General Manager of the Toronto Star. In 2001, Jagoda was named Publisher of The Hamilton Spectator and Senior Vice-President, Regional Daily Newspapers, Torstar Media Group. In addition to her role as Publisher of The Spectator, Jagoda was subsequently appointed President of the newly formed CityMedia Group which encompassed daily newspapers as well as numerous community newspapers, magazines, and commercial printing operations.


Her tenure as Publisher of The Hamilton Spectator was marked by a culture of innovation and journalistic excellence. During this period, The Spectator received more journalistic honours than at any time in a generation, including the Canadian Journalism Foundation's Award of Excellence (2005).


Also during her tenure, The Spectator earned an international reputation as a leader in innovation and cultural change and in 2005, The Spectator was designated a 'Learning Newsroom' by the American Society of Newspaper Editors and the American Press Institute- the only Canadian newspaper to receive such a designation.


Jagoda left CityMedia in February 2006 when she was appointed Executive Vice-President, Newspapers, Torstar, a role that gave her strategic responsibility for all Torstar newspapers. In October 2006, Jagoda was appointed President of Star Media Group and Publisher of the Toronto Star - the first woman to hold that position at Canada's largest daily newspaper.


In 2008, Jagoda was tapped to lead the efforts to bring the 2015 Pan American Games to Toronto and the Greater Golden Horseshoe. In the capacity of President and COO of the Bid, she led a private and public sector team to a first ballot victory in November 2009. This victory represents the first successful multi-sport games bid for the Province of Ontario since 1930 and represents the largest investment in sport infrastructure in Ontario history.


Jagoda serves as Past-Chair of the McMaster Board of Governors, and is an active member of the McMaster Human Resources and Executive and Governance Committees. She chaired the Board of Governors from 2015 to 2017 and served as the Past-Chair of the Remunerations Committee and was a member of the Executive, Nominating and Finance and Audit Committees.

Jagoda has also served as the Chair of the Canadian Newspaper Association, Director of Canadian Press, Director of Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation, Trustee of Brock University, and Chair and President of the Hamilton Commonwealth Games Bid Corporation (2010 and 2014).


Jagoda was named to Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award in 2007 and by the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport as one of the most influential women in sport in 2009.


Jagoda was educated at the University of Toronto, where she studied economics and, later, at Osgoode Hall Law School, from which she received a Bachelor of Laws Degree in 1984. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1986.
